How to sensibly plan your dream Maui vacation

It’s no secret — a leisure trip to Hawaii isn’t cheap…but there are ways to make it more affordable and enjoyable. Here are a few super helpful tips to get you on your way to a memorable, worry-free Maui vacation:

Air – Google Flights

By far the best way to compare prices and track flights to Maui is with Google Flights. Here you don’t have to waste your time with multiple open tabs on different airlines or worse yet – the endless distractions and popup ads on travel sites like Orbitz and Travelocity.

Google Flights gets the job done with an simple user interface, travel timing tips to save money and a price tracking feature that emails you when a price changes.

Lodging – Sunny Maui Condos (of course)

Alternative lodging

If you prefer other types of lodging, you can also try this list. Keep in mind that costs go up and down with the travel season.

  • Hotels – Maui offers some of the most luxurious resorts on the planet.
  • Home exchange – instead of paying money to rent a place, why not just trade places? Not too many people know about Home Exchange, but those that do swear by it (and it saves you a ton of money).

Beyond Maui

map

Since Hawaii is geographically positioned halfway between the North America and Australasia, it’s easier (and sometimes more affordable) to continue your adventure beyond Maui.

From Hawaii, you can fly direct to most major cities in Japan, Korea and China, as well as the South Pacific (Tahiti, Samoa, Guam) and Australia (Sydney and Brisbane).

There are, of course, the neighbor islands to explore — each of which are unique and incredible in their own right, and only a 40 minute plane hop away.

Be open to serendipity!

Bonus: all the major airlines and non-stop cities served by Kahului Airport
