To blog is human, to vlog is divine. Hawaii has produced a handful of outstanding YouTube personalities, mostly in the comedy and sports (surfing) genres. Here are our top 5:
Jamie O’Brien
I used to live down the street from Jamie O’Brien (“JOB”). He’s an ultra talented surfer and all around good guy who never quite fit the profile of competitive surfer. Maybe it’s that rebel-comedian-daredevil persona?
In either case, Jamie has a large and passionate global fan base. He’s fun to watch whether you surf or not…and if you do, JOB is one of the best.
Taimane
Do you have any idea what kind of music an ukulele is capable of producing?
Taimane does. She’s a local girl with INSANE talent on the uke. I’ve seen her perform up close and…wow! — it was as if she was possessed. Here is Taimane’s performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk:
Andrea Hanneman
She started as a mom living on the North Shore of Oahu selling eyelash extensions. Now she’s Instagram celebrity “earthyandy” who shares her enviable Hawaiian beach life with 1.2 million followers.
Andrea’s secret to living the dream? Lots of sun, sand, surf and sea — all centered around a plant-based diet.

Koa Rothman
Don’t let his gentle, soft-spoken demeanor fool you — this Hawaiian surfer oozes finesse in all kinds of suft, and is an absolute madman in massive waves.
Hailing from the Rothman family on the North Shore of Oahu, Koa’s “This is Livin'” YouTube channel offers viewers an uncut view into the Hawaiian surfer lifestyle. Note: he’s actually that nice in real life.
Pashyn Santos
Hawaii has its own brand of humor, and who better to represent than local girl Pashyn Santos.
Pashyn has been entertaining most of her life and is known for creating “Pidgin Siri” and “Local Maddahs.” If you’re from Hawaii, you can’t not laugh at this stuff:
