The top 5 wedding locations on Maui

Considering Maui for your wedding? Let’s just say you’re not alone — Maui is one of the most sought-after places in the world to tie the knot.

The real question is — where are the best places on the island to get married? We’ve got 5 of the very best ones right here:

Haiku Sugar Mill

Just up the road from Paia, the Haiku Sugar Mill (also known as Pua Le‘a in Hawaiian, meaning “blossoming passion”) is one of Maui’s most popular and photogenic wedding venues.

After laying in overgrowth and ruins for over 100 years, the Mill was revived and restored to what you see now: original thick stone walls from 1858 frame a gorgeous courtyard with panoramic views, a stunning French chandelier and several touches of Old World European elegance.

In 2013, Conde Nast UK named Haiku Mill as one of the top 25 wedding venues in the world.

Says Yelp reviewer:

“This venue is spectacular beyond words. The architecture of the buildings, the setting, the decor is just so romantic and beautiful. It’s a perfect site for a (small) wedding. When you’re inside, it takes you away from Maui to somewhere even more beautiful.”

Sugarman Estate

Resting on 3.5 acres, with over 300 feet right on the shoreline, the Sugarman Estate is the cream of the crop when it comes to Maui weddings.

Should you decide to take your vows here, you’ll have the entire venue to yourself and up to 200 guests — which means total oceanfront privacy, views of neighbor islands, private parking…and Steven Tyler as your neighbor.

The estate is managed by Honua Kai Lani, which translates to “Earth, Sea and Sky.” It’s located about five miles south of the Shops at Wailea, and offers a three-bedroom, air-conditioned house with a kitchen to use for wedding preparations.

Kapalua Beach

This sweet, gorgeous stretch of sand in West Maui was once named “Best Beach in the World” (wow!) by readers of Conde Nast. It’s no wonder why weddings are popular here.

In addition to getting married on the beach itself, you can also choose from more formal venues at nearby resorts, including:

  • The Cliff House at Montage Kapalua Bay. This intimate house accommodates about 40 people, and is perched atop the cliffs of Namalu Bay. Floor to ceiling windows frame breathtaking panoramic ocean views, including Molokai and Lana‘i.
  • The Ritz-Carlton offers three venues:
    • Lava Point — a tiny but beautiful lava rock outcropping for intimate ceremonies of two to four people. Sunset only.
    • Beach House Lawn – a 23,000 square-foot beachfront lawn for large ceremonies up to 500 people
    • Napili Lawn – a lush lawn with a scenic backdrop with views of the Kapalua Cliffside and Honolua Bay. Accommodates up to 200 people.

Secret Beach

Secret Beach (aka Makena Cove or Pa‘ako Beach) is located south of Big Beach in Makena, between two oceanfront properties. This small, intimate white sand beach is framed by black lava on both sides, with stunning views of Molokini crater and the island of Kaho’olawe draped in the background.

While sunsets here are spectacular, it also tends to draw several couples at the same looking to tie the knot. A morning or mid-day wedding would be the best call if you want the place to yourself.

Says one reviewer of Secret Beach:

“It is hard to describe the feeling of being married on a beach, barefoot, while listening to the waves crashing on the rocks. We had a perfect Maui day, with only a slight breeze and hardly a cloud in the sky. I had to stop a few times just to look around and take it all in.”

Olowalu Plantation House

This charming oceanfront villa on the way to Lahaina is ideal if you want to avoid a crowded beach or resort. A sprawling lawn overlooks the ocean while trees and beautiful landscaping throughout provide ample shade and photo opportunities.

There is also a historic and rustic chic plantation house for ceremony preparation. The beach in front is rocky and makes for a picturesque backdrop, especially during sunset. Bonus: it’s BYOB (bring your own alcohol), which means you don’t have to pay $15 for each drink!

Says one Yelp reviewer:

“What a gorgeous, gorgeous venue. Honestly, it’s more than a venue. It’s an experience.”
