13 places on Maui to brag about your life on Instagram

Thanks to Instagram, anyone can appear to feel fabulous. Thanks to Maui, you actually can feel fabulous.

Put both together and you have some very promising bragging potential that actually feels great!

Dragon’s Teeth

In West Maui are some fascinating rock formations that meet the sea that were formed when the wind whipped the fresh molten lava into what appear as a set of dragon’s teeth — perfect for showing off how “cool” and “adventurous” you are.

You can access this natural wonder by a quick hike on the Dragon’s Teeth Access Trail near the Ritz-Carlton golf course to Makaluapuna Point.

Haleakala

Maui’s highest point — an ancient, extinct volcano — never disappoints.

Many make the ascent in the pre-dawn hours to gaze at the famous sunrise.

However, any time of day or night allows you to experience the magic, and your followers to experience the envy. For sunrise don’t forget to book your reservation as only limited number of people are allowed to visit the summit each morning.

Upcountry

Despite the elevation, Upcountry Maui is a low-hanging Instagram fruit thanks to the quick drive from the sun-drenched coastlines of Maui.

From here you can post views of said coastlines, other towns and the mystical West Maui Mountains.

If you really want to turn it up, try:

La Perouse Bay

If you’re going for the “I-have-paradise-all-to-myself” look, then head to La Perouse Bay in South Maui.

It’s basically a large lava field by the sea with walking trails, countless natural features and best of all — stunning natural beauty.

Perfect for your next “seclusion-selfie.”

Wailea

If you’re going to stay on Maui, Wailea is definitely the cool place to be and be seen. Here you can both enjoy and boast about a level of luxury and opulence not commonly attainable in Hawaii.

Also included: the most breathtaking sunsets in all of Hawaii. Not a joke.

Kahakuloa Bay

If you want your followers to think you’ve just “discovered” some exotic new part of Hawaii, head to Kahakuloa Bay on the north side of West Maui.

Enough said.

Pipiwai Trail

How much Instagram-follower envy could you generate on a 2-hour hike through an exotic Hawaiian bamboo forest that ends at a 200-foot waterfall?

Plenty.

The Pipiwai Trail is part of Haleakala National Park. You’ll need a National Park Pass, which costs $25 per vehicle and is valid for 3 days. Totally worth it, as it includes access to the Haleakala summit.

Heart Rock

What better way to show everyone how much you’re loved, in love or embrace love than a photo next to Maui’s iconic “Heart Rock”?

To get the shot, park on the side of the road 8 miles north of Kapalua (around mile marker 38.5) and make your way down the rocks about .75 mile. Here you will find a heart-shaped formation “cut” through the lava rock in a near-perfect heart shape.

Bonus: the Nakalele Blowhole is also there.

Road to Hana

The road to Hana is an Instagram goldmine.

Here you’ll find quaint tropical fruit stands, curvy stretches of road with exotic Hawaiian backdrops, sensual rainforests and sexy waterfalls. And more.

Still not a cliché, yo.

Lahaina Pali Trail

4.25 miles is a short price to pay, I mean to walk, to let people know you’re some kind of gnarly, off-the-beaten path traveler.

The hike is tough and technical but rewarding, with spectacular views of South Maui, the wind turbines and even Molokini in the distance. Lots of uphill and no shade or shadow once the sun comes out.

Go early, wear good shoes and drink lots of water, and keep smiling…for the camera.

Haiku Mill

Take an abandoned sugar mill and turn into a enchanted wedding venue. That’s Haiku Mill for you. If you’re lucky enough to be invited to a wedding (including your own) or other event, you will not be disappointed.

The venue exudes a ramshackle charm, especially at dusk when the champagne is popped and the hanging lights illuminate the hanging flowers and old-growth vines on the walls, creating a dream-like ambience that’s impossible to fake, even on Instagram.

Kaanapali

If you want “basic awesome” Maui, post something from Ka’anapali on Maui’s west side.

Here you get quintessential golden sand beaches, palm trees swaying in the breeze, the azure Pacific Ocean, the island of Molokai and humpback whales in the winter. Maybe all of the above with you in a hammock, drink in hand.

Like I said, just basic awesome Maui.

Anywhere and everywhere

Let’s be honest: pretty much anywhere on Maui is Instagrammable. You don’t even need the caption.

Just the fact you’re here is enough to make most people jealous.

So post away — and don’t apologize!
