Unless you’re already a fan, food trucks can be a little daunting — they look inviting, but you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get. We’re here to tell you that food trucks are indeed awesome and you should try as many as you can.
The food truck scene on Maui does not disappoint. All the ones you see here serve some of the most ono food (that’s Hawaiian for tasty) on the Valley Isle. After a few visits to any of these, you’ll be a food truck fanatic!
Kahului
Like Poke
Poke is raw fish that’s prepared in a number of local styles such as spicy, limu (seaweed), Hawaiian and even kimchi. Like Poke sells fresh made poke and really tasty treats such as furikake fries and ahi katsu.

Tip: show up early (they sell out), try the Shoyu Ginger Poke
Maui Fresh Streatery
Come here if you want world cuisine prepared with a local Hawaiian flair. The menu is rotated every two weeks featuring local style Hawaiian plates, Indian, French, Italian, American, Pan-Asian and more.

Geste Shrimp Truck
This is the only shrimp truck on island and it’s very popular with locals. $13 gets you a feast of shrimp, crab macaroni salad and white rice.

Tip: expect a line, Spicy Pineapple Shrimp plate is a must try
Kihei
Da Nani Pirates
According to this quirky pirate-themed food truck’s about page, owners Daniel and Josh of have won several national cooking contests that include oyster, shrimp, clam chowder, sausage, chili, chicken wings, as well as food and wine pairing at over 100 wineries!

Tip: 5 stars on Yelp! Healthy portions, tasty creative recipes and lots of “Best of” claims from happy customers.
Aloha Thai Fusion
4.5 stars on Yelp means this Thai food is the real deal, or as one Yelper says: “Best pad Thai I’ve had since Thailand.” Aloha Thai Fusion is also known for friendly service and generous portions…so what are you waiting for?

Tip: no seating, it’s grab and go; also: they are sometimes found at Maui Brewing Co. at night
Horhitos
Well-known for their tacos: shrimp, fresh ono or mahi, chicken, smoked roasted pork, steak and their specialty — Al Pastor (pork marinated in a tropical sauce with fresh cilantro and onions).

Tip: cash only, tortillas are made fresh
Three’s Grill (Food Truck)
An extension of the restaurant of the same name, this food truck wanders around the island with a menu that changes often and includes favorite restaurant selections. Excellent Hawaiian, Southwestern and Pacific Rim cuisine.
Location: wandering, but often on Saturdays at the Kahului swap meet and Kihei town party on fourth Fridays of the month

Tip: hire the truck for catering, try the hurricane fries and soft shell crab po boy
South Maui Fish Company
This is the only food truck on island with its fresh catch on display and serves poke prepared on demand. In fact, they only serve fish they catch themselves on the same day you eat it. Their fresh slaw has coconut milk and pineapple.

Tip: they’ll run out of fish by 4pm, try the cooked fillets, too
6 TRUCKS AT AZEKA
A group of 6 trucks has taken place behind the Azeka shopping center in Kihei. The pod features a large shaded area with picnic tables and tons of parking.
There are 808 Street Grinds famous for their pulled pork sandwich. For a great beef, veggie or chicken burger, check out Teddy’s Bigger Burger Food Truck. Pua’a BBQ is a barbecue on wheels that features two smokers. Try the original coconut cream fruit shaves at Gus’ Hawaiian Shave Ice. Bait & Hook is a seafood truck that offers poke bowls, lobster mac n cheese. Delicious traditional dishes are served at the Greek Mediterranean food truck

Makena
Big Beach BBQ
Excellent food and excellent service, with meat smoked for 8 hours over local kiawe (mesquite) wood.
Location: Makena Alanuui road (near Big Beach)

Tip: go from beach, try the pulled pork on taro bread
Jawz Fish Tacos
This truck offers quesadillas, burritos, nachos, fresh fruit smoothies and ice-cold shave ice. A California-Mexican local’s favorite!

Tip: go for the pink snapper tacos
Lahaina
Shark Pit
Shark Pit offers plate lunches made with local organic ingredients. They are famous for their guacamole cheeseburger, the chopped steak plate and the sweet and spicy corn-on-the-cob.

Tip: Shark Pit made the Yelp Top 100 places to eat in the US list two years in a row; truck might be down while restaurant operates, but check with staff.
