5 conscious lifestyle changes for a blissful 2016

jumpAnother sunny, warm and prosperous year has passed here at Sunny Maui Condos. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting and
serving our wonderful guests who came from all over the world to spend their vacation in Maui.

We’ve also grown quite a bit as a company, adding more rooms — including select luxury units in Wailea — as well as a concierge, our very own Maui Guide mobile app, Hawaiian Airlines travel deals and our never ending commitment to “Creating exceptional vacation experiences, one guest at a time.”

As much as we’re excited about change and growth, we still like to reflect and focus on how to be fully present and conscious as we move into the New Year. In the spirit of last year’s final blog post, we offer you 5 more simple and conscious lifestyle changes for a stellar 2016:

Be mindful

Mindfulness is the practice of seeing things for what they are rather than what you interpret them to be.

For example, if it’s cold outside, mindfulness can help you accept and experience the cold without judging it or feeling like it’s personal (because it’s not). We here in Hawaii are usually terrified of the cold, but we don’t have to be — we always have the freedom to choose how we feel!

Cultivate your intuition

The world we live in appears to be made up of facts, knowledge and data. The pursuit of knowledge is often seen as one of the highest goals someone can undertake. All this is good, but let’s not forget that we are also intuitive beings, and that our intuition can supply us with knowing and certainty in situations where facts cannot.

As Albert Einstein once said:

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

Start a meditation practice

Meditation brings you in touch with the present moment, where you’re free from regret of the past and anxiety of the future. Not a bad place to be, and it’s accessible right now!

Meditation is also very simple to do — all you need is yourself and your willingness to let go, calm your mind focus on your breathing. A general guideline is to set aside 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes before bedtime for meditation.

The benefits of meditation are immense, and it will change your life.

Practice gratitude

When you possess an attitude of gratitude, every moment and situation that comes your way can be seen as a gift. Even the “bad” stuff in your life can be accepted as a valuable learning lesson towards realizing your higher self.

An excellent way to practice gratitude is to take a walk outside without distractions: observe the bewilderment of the world around you.

Seek higher learning

Most of us are “guilty” of using the precious time in our day to distract ourselves with social media or some other mindless habits. If you can consciously observe yourself doing this, consider replacing that wasted energy on focus and commitment to improve the quality of your life.

There are countless books, teachers, coaches and others out there who want to help you become a happier, healthier and more productive you. With this in mind, ponder what Rumi said:

What you seek is seeking you.
